Puffer-Sweiven is proud to announce that the Applying IEC 61511 to Burner Management- Training Course will be offered on July 12th- 13th in Stafford, TX. This course provides an educational overview on how to implement a performance based Burner Management System (BMS) and move away from the constraints of a prescription based standard for safety function design, especially when waste fuels are introduced into boilers or process heaters. The IEC 61511 standard is the functional safety standard specific to the Process Industry sector. This standard introduces a safety life cycle concept which is a structured engineering process to ensure that functional safety is achieved in a plant. The standard also focuses on evaluation of process risk and required risk reduction, if necessary. The safety life cycle approach to Burner Management Systems will address any deficiencies in design, testing, documentation, and maintenance or modification requirements.
Attendees will look forward to learning the following skills:
- Understand the need for an IEC 61511 compliant BMS
- Understand the hazards of combustion
- Understand risk reduction for combustion hazards
- Develop an understanding of NFPA, ISA and IEC standards and their requirements for BMS
- Identify Safeguards and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF) for combustion systems
- Practical Implementation of an IEC 61511 compliant BMS safety system
Furthermore, course topics will include the following:
- Purpose of Burner Management Systems
- Overview of combustion equipment
- Causes of Furnace explosions
- BMS Operations Sequencing
- Combustion Hazards and associated Risk Reduction
- BMS and related standards
- IEC 61511 and the Safety Lifecycle
- Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS)
- BMS Documentation Requirements
- BMS Testing Requirements
- BMS Operations and Maintenance Requirements
