How Puffer-Sweiven is Responding to COVID-19

March 17, 2020

Dear Valued Customer,

Puffer-Sweiven’s highest priority is the safety and welfare of our customers, business partners and employees. With the growing threat of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) to the health of our communities, we are committed to minimizing the spread of this virus, while continuing to serve our customers.

Our sales offices and service centers remain open. We will be here to serve you throughout this crisis and long after it has passed, just as we have done the past 75 years. During this time, we have taken several precautionary measures across our operations to help mitigate spread of the disease. These measures are in accordance with local public health policies and include protective practices in support of the health of our Puffer family and the communities in which we operate.

We have created a Pandemic Response Committee (PRC), which consists of senior-level leadership across the Company. The PRC is monitoring the COVID-19 developments globally, nationally, and most specifically on the Texas Gulf Coast. We are following the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and guidelines with respect to our employees, our work sites, and visitors to our work sites. Specifically, the PRC has enacted protective practices including:

  • Safeguarding employees, suppliers and visitors to our facilities, with appropriate pre-entry screening of visitors, increased frequency of facility cleaning, and provision of sanitization resources, in accordance with local health policies
  • Restricting visitors only to those essential in the conduct of our business
  • Educating employees on COVID-19 mitigation, including information on how the virus spreads and good hygiene habits
  • Requiring employees to work remotely or stay away from work for a 14-day period if known or potential exposure to COVID-19
  • Requiring employees to stay at home if they feel ill and to delay return to work until they are free of fever (100.4° F or greater using an oral thermometer), signs of a fever, and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines such as cough suppressants
  • Adding a rigorous approval process for business travel, with restrictions on travel to only those considered essential for our business
  • Requiring employees and contingent workers to notify the Company of any personal travel
  • Prohibiting any individual who (or lives with someone who) has flown, either domestically or internationally, or been on a cruise from entering our facilities until 14 days after their return, and only if they have no symptoms of COVID-19 and are not using fever suppressing medication
  • Cancelling all non-essential work-related meetings and travel, whether internal or external
  • Separating employee workstations to ensure safe social distancing
  • Staggering employee breaks and lunch times to promote social distancing
  • Implementing remote work programs and requiring those who can work remotely to do so
  • When our employees visit customer worksites, we screen those COVID-19 worksite rules in advance to make sure that our employees comply with all procedures
  • Deep cleaning of all surfaces in our facilities each workday
  • Working with our supply chain to mitigate business disruptions

We thank you for your business and would like to affirm our unwavering support for you, your company and your employees. Puffer-Sweiven is proud to be a trusted partner to your business. We thank you for your partnership and are grateful for the trust you place in Puffer-Sweiven.
